Non-Invasive Prenatal Paternity DNA Testing
Ravgen is focused on developing non-invasive prenatal diagnostic tests based on fetal DNA present in maternal blood. The publicity surrounding our publications generated a large number of phone calls from patients requesting various non-invasive prenatal tests even on a research basis. These phone calls opened our eyes to a significant unmet clinical need which compelled us to develop Non-invasive Prenatal Paternity DNA Testing.
Ravgen’s focus is on noninvasive prenatal diagnostics from fetal DNA in mother’s blood. This has led to the development of noninvasive prenatal paternity DNA testing that meets the needs of those patients interested in safe alternatives to traditional paternity tests. Ravgen exists to explore the unmet needs of patients seeking non-invasive prenatal paternity DNA testing.
After years of research and development, The Lancet fast-track published our study on a noninvasive prenatal Downs syndrome test in February of 2007. The publicity surrounding our previous publications generated a large number of phone calls from patients who needed to determine paternity during the pregnancy but did not wish to undergo invasive tests, such as amniocentesis, which carry a risk of miscarriage. These patients had very compelling reasons for prenatal paternity testing. For example, some were victims of rape, others were carriers of genetic disorders and uncertain paternity impacted whether or not they were at risk for having a child affected with the disorder. In some cases, uncertain paternity was leading to such stress during the pregnancy that it was having an impact on the health of the pregnancy. These patient phone calls opened our eyes to a significant unmet clinical need which compelled us to develop a noninvasive prenatal paternity test.

The Prosecution of Michael Roseboro
